I was dreading the drive to Austin, traffic and all. When I stopped to fuel up I noticed my front tire was almost flat. Now what to do, here I sit in a strange town with a flat tire. On top of that its Mother’s Day and I’m feeling sad being away from my family.

A dad and his young son were parked in the bay next to me. Noticing the flat tire, he told me “no worries” he would fix it. While I sat and visited with this very cool 5-year-old boy his Dad aired up the flat tire, checked to make sure it would hold air, checked the other tires, checked the oil and had me ready to roll in no time! I offered to pay him for his trouble, he just shook his head and said “Happy Mother’s Day”. As I drove away this amazing dad and his son stood waving with big smiles on their faces! Happy Mother’s Day indeed!

As I pulled out of the service station I was feeling grateful for the kindness of strangers and the beautiful gift of having to take pause and spend a moment in time with an amazing 5 year old boy full of life and compassion!
